Holding high standards for both teachers and students, Mel remains steadfast in her commitment to create a kind, nurturing environment that brings out the best in each individual. Madel believes that our youth are our future. With supportive families and a school that prioritises each child’s best interests, she sees the doors to success opening for our students.

Committed to impacting young lives, Madel has over 27 years of teaching experience, bringing a wealth of expertise with her.

Vanessa Egappen

Mathematics

An accomplished Mathematics coach and teacher, Vanessa is dedicated to concept-based learning, empowering students to delve beyond principles and grasp mathematical concepts. With 22 years of teaching experience, including 6 years internationally at a Cambridge school, Vanessa brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the classroom.

Jo Meyer

Art & Design

Passionate about Visual Art and creativity and the life long critical thinking that exposure to the arts fortifies, Jo is an enthusiastic, dedicated and conscientious teaching professional. Friendly and caring, she builds trust-based relationships with her students and connections with them that are characterised by high levels of empathy and humour. Jo is also a passionate dog and plant mom.

Mark Hatton

Biology and Physics

With a strong background from a prestigious private boys’ college and extensive Cambridge experience in Biology, Mark brings both expertise and enthusiasm to the science classroom. Rising to the challenge of teaching AS Physics and Biology, he blends academic rigor with real-world curiosity – often bringing the garden into the lab or taking students out to experience science first-hand. Mark’s calm guidance and genuine care have made him a trusted mentor, especially to the younger boys.

Estelle Anderton

Afrikaans

Excited to be a part of the Evolve team, Estelle really enjoys interacting with young people and loves teaching. She has more than 30 years experience teaching Afrikaans. A mom of two grown children that have followed in her footsteps and are also involved in teaching languages, Estelle keeps active playing tennis and swimming. She also enjoys mosaicking and talking to her cat!

Amy Schippers

Chemistry and Physics

Amy is passionate about creating a student-centred environment where learning between teacher and student is reciprocal. Whilst short in stature, they say “dynamite comes in small packages” and she is enthusiastic and ready for her role of inspiring passionate young scientists. Armed with a Chemical Science degree and PGCE, Amy looks forward to growing and evolving with Evolve Academy.

Emily Webster

English

New to high school teaching but with a strong foundation from her experience lecturing at university level, Emily brings both depth and enthusiasm to our English department. Her love for literature shines through in every lesson, where her calm yet vibrant presence inspires thoughtful discussion and creativity. A regular volunteer at the annual Grahamstown Arts Festival, Emily infuses colour and life into her classroom—encouraging students to explore stories, voices, and ideas that spark imagination and self-expression.
