Mel Handley
Academic Head
Needing no introduction, Mel continues to lead our small school with unwavering vision and profound passion. Holding high standards for both teachers and students, Mel remains steadfast in her commitment to create a kind, nurturing environment that brings out the best in each individual. We are privileged to have a leader of Mel’s caliber steering our academic journey towards excellence.
Madel stander
History & L/S Business Studies
Madel believes that our youth are our future. With supportive families and a school that prioritises each child’s best interests, she sees the doors to success opening for our students.
Committed to impacting young lives, Madel has over 27 years of teaching experience, bringing a wealth of expertise with her.
Vanessa Egappen
Mathematics
An accomplished Mathematics coach and teacher, Vanessa is dedicated to concept-based learning, empowering students to delve beyond principles and grasp mathematical concepts. With 22 years of teaching experience, including 6 years internationally at a Cambridge school, Vanessa brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the classroom.
Juleen Mettler
L/s & IG1 Mathematics
With more than 40 years teaching experience (three of those at our small school) Juleen loves teaching Mathematics in an enjoyable, safe atmosphere. She strives to change her students’ attitude towards Maths, to love the subject. Her passion is to make a positive difference in her students’ lives and she believes that Evolve Academy creates a learning environment that makes this possible.
Estelle Anderton
Afrikaans
Excited to become a part of the Evolve team, Estelle really enjoys interacting with young people and loves teaching. She has more than 30 years experience teaching Afrikaans. A mom of two grown children that have followed in her footsteps and are also involved in teaching languages, Estelle keeps active playing tennis and swimming. She also enjoys mosaicking and talking to her cat!
Amy Schippers
Physics and Chemistry
Amy is passionate about creating a student-centred environment where learning between teacher and student is reciprocal. Whilst short in stature, they say “dynamite comes in small packages” and she is enthusiastic and ready for her role of inspiring passionate young scientists. Armed with a Chemical Science degree and PGCE, Amy looks forward to growing and evolving with Evolve Academy.
Jo Meyer
Art & Design, L/S geography
Passionate about Visual Art and creativity and the life long critical thinking that exposure to the arts fortifies, Jo is an enthusiastic, dedicated and conscientious teaching professional. Friendly and caring, she builds trust-based relationships with her students and connections with them that are characterised by high levels of empathy and humour. Jo is also a passionate dog and plant mom.
Dale Carr
With a background in Food Science and Biotechnology, Dale leads with an energetic, creative, and scientifically-based approach. She’s committed to helping every student perform to the best of their ability, using her encouraging teaching style to inspire and motivate. Dale’s passion for baking fills our school kitchen with delightful aromas and decadent creations, making after-school activities both delicious and engaging!

Thriving on turning challenges into opportunities, Leanne has a knack for collaboration and creative problem solving. With a passion for transformation through education, she spearheads initiatives that enhance student experiences, connect community, and drive operational excellence.
Carmen Peters
Project Administrator
Carmen believes that it is important to create an environment where children feel safe, secure, loved, cared for, and appreciated. Children should feel free to explore and use their imagination and have the space to be children.
